He has two crosses of thoroughbred on his dam side, Sky boy and Ozymandais, both of which have impeccable records as performance sires.
It is probably this double injection of thoroughbred in the dam’s pedigree which has given Carrick Diamond Lad’s progeny the stamina for showjumping, 3-day eventing competitions and dressage.
His sire Flagmount Diamond produced international showjumpers and provides us with some of the best brood mares in the world.
Injured as a foal, Carrick Diamond Lad was prevented from passing the performance testing and from a competitive career. As a result of this he was registered as ‘S1’ thus adding handicap to his young stock as they were not allowed to compete in the Irish Horse Board young horse classes.
Despite this drawback and the subsequent limited crop of just 93 mares in his first 6 seasons, he has produced many superb horses including Private Heart, Carrick Jewel and Theatre Royal. SeeProgeny
